Programming Your Thermostat for all Seasons
As the seasons change, so must the temperature on your programmable thermostat. Not sure how you should be programming your thermostat during each season? Here are some easy to follow tips.
Programmable thermostats help you conveniently manage your home temperature settings by creating a schedule. They help save you money and are super easy to control. In the fall and winter months you will want to program your thermostat to a lower temperature while you are out of the house during the day, then warmer towards the evening when you arrive home. The opposite goes for the spring and summer months. You'll want to program your thermostat to be warmer while you are away at work and cooler when you return home in the evening.
In the spring and summer months, you will want to keep your programmable thermostat around 75 to 78 degrees while you are home. Keep direct sunlight out of your home by drawing your shades or closing your blinds. You'll want to make sure your home is sealed up tight during the hottest hours of the day, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. You will also want to take advantage of cooler summer nights by setting your thermostat higher. Also, fans are a cheap solution when your air conditioner starts creating high energy bills. When you leave to go to work or know you will be out of the house for a long period of time, program the temperature to rise.
When fall and winter roll around you will have to adjust your thermostat accordingly. When you are at home, set your thermostat around 68 to 72 degrees. When you leave the house, turn your thermostat down to around 64 degrees. Also, make sure your exhaust fans in your kitchen and bathroom are turned off. They can actually remove warm air inside your home when they are on. Don't forget to make sure the air in your home is circulating correctly. Move any furniture or rugs that could be blocking vents in your home.
Don't disregard your thermostat when the seasons change. Make sure you are programming it properly so you can save money and live comfortably. For more information about programmable thermostats, visit our website or call us at 317-291-4909 today!
