Electrical problems, inadequate oil lubricant and blocked suction lines are all things that can cause your AC unit to fail. While these are important to think about, the real failure comes from lack of preventative care for your unit. We have identified the three main things that, on a larger level, cause A/C failure.

1. Regular Maintenance

The biggest thing we stress to all of our clients is regular maintenance. Our production manager Andy Gibson said it best when he said Regular maintenance really goes a long way. Not maintaining your AC unit is a lot like buying a new car and never changing the oil. We recommend cleaning and servicing your unit once a year. The ideal time to clean is spring, just before the cooling season starts. Regular changes to filters not only keeps the air in your home cleaner, it helps your unit run more efficiently, which saves you money on monthly bills and helps your unit last longer.

2. Check-Ups

While maintenance is crucial for keeping your unit clean, there are a few things too look out for between scheduled service. In the spring cottonwood and pollen can do a lot of damage in blocking up your air filter. If you can't see the coils, it's time to address the problem. Keep an eye on your filters and overall cleanliness of the unit, if it looks dirty or blocked up, it's time to call in the professionals.

3. Professional Technicians

Speaking of professionals, one thing that can really do damage on your unit is an inexperienced 'technician'. Your air conditioner is an investment and worth paying a professional to fix and maintain. Improper maintenance and a quick fix can do long term damage to your unit. Don't risk damaging your unit with inexperienced service, trust professional technicians to protect your investment and keep your unit running efficiently longer.

All of the technicians at Chapman are NATE certified. North American Technician Excellence (NATE) is an independent, third-party organization that develops and promotes excellence in the installation and service of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment by recognizing high-quality industry technicians through voluntary testing and certification. School is out and another hot Indiana summer is in full swing! If you and your family are trying to come up with fun ways to beat the heat, look no further. We've put together some of our favorite ways to stay cool and have fun.

1. Go to the movies

Matinee movies are a great way to stay cool during the afternoon. All theaters have lower prices for earlier showings, plus extra discounts for students and senior citizens. Select theaters also have summer programs for families. Cinemark theaters offer $1.15 admission for groups of three or more, and Goodrich theaters have free movies on Saturday and Sunday mornings, leaving you with extra money for concession stand goodies!

2. Make homemade popsicles

Head to your local farmer's market to pick up fresh fruit like watermelons and strawberries for these yummy treats. Kids will love experimenting with ingredient combinations; you'll love the healthy alternative to the ice cream truck. As an added bonus, you probably already have all the necessary hardware: paper cups and popsicle sticks. Find recipe inspiration here.

3. Explore your local state park

Find a nice shady spot and enjoy a picnic lunch and your favorite book for a peaceful afternoon. Take advantage of the trails and go for a hike or bring binoculars for bird watching. If your state park also includes a reservoir, lake, or river, try your hand at kayaking or fishing.

4. Spend a day at the state fair

Nothing will cool you off like the breeze from the tilt-a-whirl. Not a ride person? No problem. The state fair offers lots of exhibits and shows in the pavilions. Regardless of what your favorite activity at the fair is, nothing can beat a classic pork tenderloin and lemon shake-up!

5. Hit the links

Dust off your clubs and head over to your area golf course. Most courses offer special early bird and end-of-day rates during the week. Since the course isn't busy at those times of the day, skip the cart and walk instead. If your course has a pool, head over in the late afternoon. The kids can splash around at the pool while you work on your swing.

6. Have your air conditioning unit serviced

Much like a car needs regular oil changes to operate efficiently, it's important that your air conditioning unit has regular maintenance. The last thing you want is an air conditioning unit that can't keep up with you during the hot, humid summer months.
