Winter has only just begun and as the temperate continues to fluctuate, so does your energy bill. So what do you do? Have you considered a zoned heating and cooling system for your home? Would you like some more information? Well, you're in the right place! Keep reading to learn why zoning is the answer to keeping your home comfortable and your wallet fat year round.

Choosing to make the switch to programmable thermostats and system zoning can be difficult because of the initial installation cost, but once your system is installed it will instantly start saving you money. If you're building a new home or replacing your old HVAC system you definitely should consider investing in zoning system for your home. Here's why:

Zoning helps create the feeling of a highly insulated room, while other areas of your home remain un-air conditioned or heated. This is great no matter what time of year it is. It could be the dead of winter and someone in your home will want to blast the air because it's too hot. It could also be the middle of July and cool air is leaving someone in your home freezing. Zoning allows everyone in your home to be comfortable no matter what the weather is like. But the best part of zoning is choosing where you want to focus heat or cool air. You no longer have to heat the entire house, aka rooms no one is continuously occupying.

So how is this possible? A zoning system is still keeping your entire house warm with a central heating system at relatively low temperatures, while using space heaters and spot heating technology to make the temperature in particular areas of the house warmer. Another benefit to a zoned heating and cooling system is it gives you the ability to keep the bathroom nice and warm on those cold winter nights so when you wake up to take a shower, you're no longer walking on ice cold tiles. How awesome is that? You have complete and total comfort in every room of your house.

Zoning allows you to reduce the heating and cooling in unused parts of your home which will substantially reduce your energy bill. Now is the perfect time to invest in a zoning a system for your home. For more information about zoning systems or to request a quote, call 317-291-4909 or visit our website today.

So the worst scenario has happened and something is wrong with the plumbing within your concrete slab. You're not sure what is happening, but you have made the first step to fix the problem by calling a professional. Here are a few things you need to mentally prepare for during a concrete slab repair.

First, the plumber will ask why you think there is a leak in the concrete foundation. Then the water in the house will need to be turned off by the plumber in preparation for specialized listening equipment the plumber will use. This equipment will listen for any leaks or inconsistency within the pipes.

When the leak or problem is discovered a plumber will use this technique to fix the problem:

Jackhammer Approach

The jackhammer approach is very inconvenient to home owners, but may be the best way to fix the problem. Where ever the leak is detected a square of your home will need to be cut and removed. Then a jackhammer will be utilized to break through the concrete slab to gain access to the pipes. For this approach, make sure to factor in the costs of repairing the floor that was damaged. Be prepared for loud noises and to avoid the area for the duration of the repairs.

Concrete slabs leave no room for short cuts or quick fixes. Repairing plumbing within a concrete slab is expensive, time consuming and can happen any time of year. Expect any damage in your slab to take at least a week's worth of inspection and labor to be completed. When a leak occurs, call Chapman to determine the best option for your home. If your home was built on a concrete slab it not only maintains a stable base during construction, it also keeps all your plumbing in place. But what happens when something shifts? Damage coming from the slab can be extremely hard to detect, but we are here to make it easier. How do you discover a plumbing leak within a concrete slab? Keep reading.

1. Wet or Damp Floors

After slipping off your shoes, you might notice some dampness under your feet. Damp or wet areas of flooring can be indicators of a plumbing leak. The water escapes the pipes within the slab and starts rising to the surface. It may also cause an elevated or bubbled area of flooring. If you see this you need to contact Chapman immediately!

2. Sound of Rushing Water

If you hear the sound of rushing water and no one is taking a shower or running a bath, you've got a problem. While the water hasn't reached the surface of your flooring, it may be flowing around the pipes instead of within them.

3. Increased Water Bill

Your water bill comes in the mail and BOOM, you notice your bill is $50 more than the previous month. Pick up the phone and get a plumber on the scene. A larger water bill may be an indicator that water is escaping the pipes which is increasing your water usage.

Fixing a plumbing system within a concrete slab can be tricky, but Chapman has the expertise to make it as smooth as possible. If your home is built on a concrete slab, stay on your toes for indicators that something may be wrong. Chapman Heating, Air Conditioning, and Plumbing, your source for qualified plumbing contractors

It's time to meet another one of our outstanding employees! This month we're featuring Tom McKinney. He's the Manager of the Scott Plumbing office and has some excellent advice for keeping your plumbing in tip-top shape this winter! Want to learn more about Tom? Keep reading.

Tom originally began his career at Chapman as a service technician. He then went on to become manager of our Scott Plumbing office and has been in the position for four years. Some of his responsibilities include; overseeing day-to-day activities in the plumbing department, assisting the dispatcher, scheduling calls, assisting plumbers on repairs, trouble shooting and quoting customers.

So what is an average day like for Tom? We'll let him explain. Tom said, I'lI arrive at the office around 7 a.m. and I'll go over the service calls for the day. I will also go over the equipment and materials needed for the calls that day. Then the rest of my day pretty much consists of assisting the plumbers, problem solving and helping out where I can. Also, a big part of my job is talking to customers and answering their questions. Customer service is very important to us so we will do whatever we can to make sure our customers are happy and the problem is solved.

But not every day goes smoothly. Sometimes the job can get stressful. Tom said, You know, most days go smoothly, they really do, but sometimes you just have those days where it's hard to do everything in one day. You really have to juggle a lot of responsibilities and focus on a lot of different things, and sometimes that can be difficult when unexpected issues pop up, but you work around them.

Tom has worked with Chapman for six years and one thing has never changed. Tom said, The best part of my job and working with this company are the people I work with. Our team is just the best. We are like a family and we do great work. I consider myself really lucky to work for such a great company.

Since Tom is a professional, we thought we would have him pass along some important plumbing tips. Tom said, Frozen pipes are a huge issue during the winter. Make sure all outside vents are closed and if you have plumbing in the garage make sure the water lines are protected and keep the garage door closed as much as possible. Also, you can easily conserve water during the colder months and lower your utility bill by investing in a Rinnai tankless water heater.

So why should Indianapolis residents choose to work with Chapman Heating and Air Conditioning? Tom said, We are a locally owned and operated company that takes customer service very seriously. We have the right tools and resources to provide the best customer service possible. We offer our services at a fair price and our team is exceptional. To me, it's a no brainer.
