A matched system is important for a variety of reasons. One is comfort. When all your components are properly sized to your home, you can control exactly how much heating or cooling you need so you can relax. Also, a properly sized matched system enables every component to perform as designed, meaning proper cycle times are maintained, humidity is controlled, and system sound is minimized.

Another reason matched systems are important is efficiency. Most systems people buy are too large for their homes, which uses more energy than needed for your home. A matched system outlined by a dealer who has completed a load calculation for your home provides just the right amount of heating and cooling you need so you get the most value for your utility dollar.

No, you don’t want your air conditioner to be too big. Air conditioners control the comfort level in your home by cooling the air and by removing humidity. An oversized air conditioner will cool your home faster, but it will use more energy and will not remove humidity adequately.

A unit that is too big for your home will have short run cycles. It may take only a short time to cool the air, but the unit shuts off before enough air blows across the indoor coil where moisture condenses into water and drains from your system. Too much moisture left in the air can lead to mold and mildew problems.

These short run cycles also mean your system starts and stops more often which uses more energy and causes a lot of wear and tear. An air conditioner operates more efficiently during long run cycles.
The same holds true with heating systems. An oversized furnace will warm the house quicker, but it uses more fuel and causes greater temperature swings in the home.

Back in May, we were excited to host Steve Coscia at our warehouse for a seminar. Steve is a noted expert, author and speaker in the field of Customer Service. He was at our facility to teach our staff about the Customer Experience in 2 half-day seminars. What we learned from Steve was invaluable and will help Chapman continue to provide the best possible service we can to our customers. If you’d like to read more about the seminars, check out Steve’s blog, Steve Coscia The #1 Customer Service Expert.

As you may or may not know, we recently won The Bryant® Medal of Excellence award in May of 2015. After we won the award it got us thinking . . . what next? Just because we have taken home a trophy and hung a banner doesn’t mean we’re done. Chapman, as a company, needs to keep searching for ways to make our business better. Here are some ways we are continuing to better our business one day at a time.

Customer Feedback

Our customers have and always will be our primary focus. We work hard to provide our customers with the best service possible and your feedback helps us do just that. We are constantly reading your reviews on Yelp, Angie’s List and Google+. Whether reviews of our services are positive or negative, we use them to help us understand areas of our business we need to improve. We appreciate all of the people who have taken the time to write about their experiences with Chapman. This helps our team become better in more ways than one.

Website

We recently redesigned our website to reflect the new look of Chapman. We have renovated our home office and thought the website could use some renovating, too. Our main focus on the website was to make it easier for our customers to contact us, whether it’s by telephone, email or social media, our contact information needed to be visible on multiple pages of our website. Our contact information is not only more visible, but our website is now easier to view and navigate on mobile devices. You can easily pull up our website on a smartphone or tablet and schedule an appointment from anywhere! We also made it a point to make our blog more accessible to customers. You can read articles about current events at Chapman, employee interviews as well as up-to-date HVAC tips. It’s a great resource everyone can take advantage of!

Training

Ongoing education is a big part of what makes Chapman different from everyone else in the HVAC industry. We provide our technicians with in-house training programs to make sure our team is on the cutting edge of new technology and product information. All of our technicians are NATE certified. Choosing a company that is NATE certified ensures you are going to work with technicians who are well trained in fixing any HVAC device. The certification test is not easy, so completing the program means each technician will leave with enhanced skill levels. You can read more about the importance of hiring a NATE certified company here. We want our technicians to be able to answer any question a customer throws at them, which is why ongoing education is a big priority for our company.

Winning The Bryant® Medal of Excellence award only pushed us to work harder to continue to improve our business. Whether it’s learning new customer service techniques or implementing new technology into our service calls, we will always continue to search for excellence in all areas of our business.

School is out and another hot Indiana summer is in full swing! If you and your family are trying to come up with fun ways to beat the heat, look no further. We’ve put together some of our favorite ways to stay cool and have fun.

1. Go to the movies

Matinee movies are a great way to stay cool during the afternoon. All theaters have lower prices for earlier showings, plus extra discounts for students and senior citizens. Select theaters also have summer programs for families. Cinemark theaters offer $1.15 admission for groups of three or more, and Goodrich theaters have free movies on Saturday and Sunday mornings, leaving you with extra money for concession stand goodies!

2. Make homemade popsicles

Head to your local farmer’s market to pick up fresh fruit like watermelons and strawberries for these yummy treats. Kids will love experimenting with ingredient combinations; you’ll love the healthy alternative to the ice cream truck. As an added bonus, you probably already have all the necessary hardware: paper cups and popsicle sticks. Find recipe inspiration here.

3. Explore your local state park

Find a nice shady spot and enjoy a picnic lunch and your favorite book for a peaceful afternoon. Take advantage of the trails and go for a hike or bring binoculars for bird watching. If your state park also includes a reservoir, lake, or river, try your hand at kayaking or fishing.

4. Spend a day at the state fair

Nothing will cool you off like the breeze from the tilt-a-whirl. Not a ride person? No problem. The state fair offers lots of exhibits and shows in the pavilions. Regardless of what your favorite activity at the fair is, nothing can beat a classic pork tenderloin and lemon shake-up!

5. Hit the links

Dust off your clubs and head over to your area golf course. Most courses offer special early bird and end-of-day rates during the week. Since the course isn’t busy at those times of the day, skip the cart and walk instead. If your course has a pool, head over in the late afternoon. The kids can splash around at the pool while you work on your swing.

6. Have your air conditioning unit serviced

Much like a car needs regular oil changes to operate efficiently, it’s important that your air conditioning unit has regular maintenance. The last thing you want is an air conditioning unit that can’t keep up with you during the hot, humid summer months.

For more ways to keep cool this summer, check out this blog post. To schedule your next service appointment, give us a call at 317-291-4909 today!.
